In May, ESCO Elecmetal, a strategic alliance between local ferrous foundry group ME Elecmetal and US engineering products firm ESCO Corporation, opened a new US$100 million manufacturing plant in Colina that will produce components for the mining and construction industries.
The opening ceremony was led by Mining Minister, Hernán Solminihac, and was attended by top executives including Cal Collins, president and CEO of ESCO Corporation; Jaime Claro, president of Elecmetal, and Rolando Medeiros, president of ESCO Elecmetal Foundry.
“Our joint venture will initially produce 12,000 tonnes of steel castings. The market will be the mining and construction industries in Chile and throughout Central and South America,” said Elecmetal’s Claro.
