Experts discuss the challenges of REP Act

At the International REP Seminar: Analysis of the Comparative Experience, an event organized by AmCham Chile in conjunction with the Chile California Council, numerous Chilean and foreign experts reflected on the challenges posed by the new Extended Producer Responsibility Act (known as the REP Act, by its Spanish acronym).

During the event, which was sponsored by DIRECTV and Recupac, notable issues addressed included the supply of segregated collection services to increase recycling rates, an analysis of recycling and waste transportation experiences, taking account of the environment as a key aspect in business management, and the importance of taking environmental impacts into consideration in the design of new products.

The seminar was attended by the Undersecretary of the Environment, Marcelo Mena, and the Deputy Director for the City of San Jose’s Environmental Services Department in California, Joanne Zientek, in addition to private sector representatives.
