Mission to the US: new practices and learning experiences in electric power distribution

In March, the Chile-US mission ‘Smart Grids and New Models of Electric Power Distribution’ was staged by AmCham Chile, with the support of the Chilean Embassy in the United States. The mission included visits to New York and Boston to explore new alternatives for electric power distribution and to gain exposure to the latest technological innovation, regulatory frameworks and commercial models being applied in the field.

Participants took part in an extensive round of meetings with some of the most recognized organizations and companies in the US energy industry, including the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), the New York Public Service Commission, the Consolidated Edison Company (conEdison), the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU), and the MIT Energy Initiative consortium, Utility of the Future.

Participants included representatives of the National Energy Commission, the Superintendence of Electricity and Fuels, and the Chilean Association of Electricity Companies, as well as a number of private sector businesses.
